Insulated and non-insulated glass
Insulated glass roofs or domes consist of two or more panes of glass filled with a vacuum or any other gas between them. On the other hand, we have non-insulated glass roofs and domes, which have only one pane in their construction.
Insulated glass roofs and domes are more expensive compared to non-insulated ones.
Glass cover classification.
GU - Glass unit
IGU - Insulated Glass Unit
TGU - Triple Glazed Unit
Glass dome panels are always installed on a downward slope. The glass is dragged to prevent it from bending due to wind, snow and its weight.
Tempered glass, also known as toughened glass or safety glass, is very suitable for facades, external walls and roofs.
Thanks to the rapid cooling manufacturing process, this glass is very durable and impact resistant, making it less likely to break when broken. In insulating glass units, all glass layers are toughened.
The glass panels used for glass domes are usually triangular, diamond, trapezoidal, pentagonal or hexagonal. More rarely they are rectangular.
Another type of glass panel is called Figura. figurative glass products are significantly more expensive than rectangular ones due to the more complex production process, more labour and the large amount of trim.
Glass Options
Glass panels are multi-layered composite materials. There is a wide variety of combinations of glass panels with different properties, chemical coatings, laminates, frames, sealants are very extensive.
Float glass has specific properties in terms of colour, transparency, emissivity, strength, pressure resistance, heat resistance, chemical resistance, sound insulation, fire rating, etc.
Special glass product configurations are available on request: electrically heated, intelligent privacy protection, fireproof, vandal resistant, bulletproof, anti-slip (suitable for walking).
Electrically heated glass
The most commonly used heated glass layers are the IGU and TGU products.
Heated glass can be controlled automatically by means of a temperature sensor or adjusted manually.
The heating paths on the glass surface are formed with the help of a laser and are so thin that they are not visible.
The external heating layer is intended to melt snow and ice. It is mostly used in countries with snowfall.
The internal heating layer is designed to remove condensation when used in spa areas, swimming pools, botanical gardens.
It is also used in high-end restaurants and hotels to create a comfortable environment where customers can sit near glass walls in winter without feeling cold. If it is +20C indoors and -5C outdoors, the inner surface of the glass will be around +12C to +16C depending on the heat resistance of the glasswork.
Internally heated glass does not replace the heating system, but merely supplements it.
Curved and covered glass
We design and manufacture curved glass products for special projects. The glass can be curved in 1 or 2 directions. gu, igu, tgu can be curved. Curved glass cannot be toughened and therefore it is not as load resistant as flat tempered glass.
The glass products can be joined in two ways - by structural silicification or by cap clips. Structural silicification is most suitable for domes.
The glazing units are mounted on an aluminium profile system which collects condensate from the glazing connection joints.
Ventilation systems
In dome-shaped buildings and skylights, unlike in flat roof structures, warm air is concentrated at the top of the dome.
It is therefore necessary to anticipate ventilation solutions when designing domes. At the top of the dome, the hot air moves slowly. As the external temperature changes, water vapour condensation forms on the inner surface of the glazing.
To prevent condensation on the glass surface, scrubbers and balanced extraction systems must be installed.
