Float Glass
Clear float glass is a common type of glass for windows and glass containers, especially in the food and beverage industry. The most popular type of clear float glass is soda-lime glass, named for its green color. This type of glass makes up about 90% of all manufactured glass. Clear float glass is also a preferred recycling material because it can be remelted and softened repeatedly without losing its integrity.
Float glass is named for its manufacturing process. Raw materials such as silica sand, soda, lime, potash and recycled glass are melted together in a furnace. The molten glass composition is poured into a molten tin chamber. Since glass is lighter than tin, it floats to the top and forms a uniform layer on the surface. The glass then undergoes a cooling process that stabilizes and hardens it.
High light transmission: The most notable advantage of float glass is its smooth, clear surface with no streaks or bubbles. Its light transmission is usually around 85-90%.
Chemically Inert: Clear float glass is non-chemically reactive and impermeable, making it ideal for applications involving contact with other substances such as food and beverages.
Recyclable: Clear float glass can be recycled many times over, making it very environmentally friendly.
Durable: It can be chemically tempered for greater hardness and scratch resistance.
Clear float glass is a versatile material. It can accommodate a wide range of thicknesses, sizes and colors. Additional treatments such as lamination, screen printing, insulation, varnishing, sandblasting and acid etching can enhance the mechanical properties of the glass for a variety of applications. These include:
Windows
Car windows
Doors
Solar applications
Mirrors
Shelving
Beijing North Tech Group Ltd is a leader in the glass industry and has been engaged in researching, developing, designing, processing, supplying and shipping glass to overseas.
Our glass is certified by CSI Australia, IGCC SGCC USA, CE Europe and China National Safety Glass Standard. Now we are working with customers in more than 100 countries. It is our aim to help our customers to be better and successful.
We strive to systematize quality.
North Glass is leading the industry by using new technologies that meet future market demands. Our growing spirit is taking glassmaking to the next level. Our furnace designs provide North Glass with an excellent system for producing float glass in an uninterrupted environment.
The capability built into the process gives our operations maximum flexibility to produce the many different thicknesses of glass required by the residential market – from 1.6 to 7mm.
From production to shipping, we make sure you get only the best.
Our practical packaging system maintains glass quality. State-of-the-art glass packaging is done on automatic or manual spur lines, depending on size. The need for cleaner production has led to systems that minimise contact with glass surfaces during the packaging phase. This capping system uses 90˚ spinners, barrel inverters, robots and stackers to ensure proper glass orientation for downstream operations.
Our computerized inventory program provides precise supply intelligence. Glass warehouses can store up to 25,000 tons of glass for our customers. To ensure we have the appropriate on-hand inventory, we have a tracking and inventory location system that links that inventory to current and projected customer demand.
Our patented racking system minimizes handling. To reduce the number of times a pack of glass has to be handled, we have introduced a system called a collapsible A-frame. It transports the glass from our floor directly to the customer's production line for processing via standard sized trailers. Racks require minimal separation or support material, which saves time and plant space in the process and reduces waste.
